1. Para expresar posibilidad/ To express possibility:

¿Qué tienen en común los verbos modales (can, must, will, might…)?/ What do the modal verbs have in common?
1. Ya son verbos auxiliares, entonces no necesistan “do” y “does” en preguntas o “don’t” y “doesn’t” in negativos./ They are already auxillary verbs, so they don’t need “do” or “does” in questions o “don’t” or “doesn’t” in negatives:
¿Puede Virginia hablar inglés?/ Can Virginia speak English?
Does Virgina can speak English? ¡ES INCORRECTO!/ IS WRONG!
Virginia no puede hablar inglés perfectamente./ Virginia can’t (or cannot) speak English perfectly.

2. El verbo que sigue al modal va sin “to”/ The verb that follows the modal goes without “to”:
Virginia can speak English.
Virginia can TO speak English… ¡ES INCORRECTO!/ IS WRONG!
Can Virginia speak English?
Can Virginia TO speak English … ¡ES INCORRECTO!/ IS WRONG!
Virginia can’t speak English perfectly.
Virginia cannot TO speak English… ¡ES INCORRECTO!/ IS WRONG!
Caractarísticas especiales de “can”/ Special characteritics of “can”:
“Can” no funciona 1) como infinitivo, 2) en el futuro y 3) muchas veces en pasado tampoco./ “Can” doesn’t work 1) as an infinitive, 2) in the future, or 3) often in past either.
La solución/ The solution:

1) Espero poder salir a la calle en mayo./ I hope to be able to go out in the street in May.
