Govt took a ‘cautious response’ to coronavirus

Govt took a ‘cautious response’ to coronavirus The government took the right response when it comes to its strict restrictions to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, according to Sky News host Jane Marwick.

Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy on Tuesday outlined the government’s COVID-19 modelling and stressed at this time the modelling was “theoretical” and based on international data.

Dr Murphy said two papers, to be released this afternoon, modelled the worst-case scenario and the risk from returned travellers.

The modelling showed if no mitigation policies were enacted, demand for intensive care beds will peak at 35,000 a day.

However, figures have shown authorities have slowed the rate of new infections.

As of Tuesday, there were 5,904 confirmed cases in Australia resulting in 48 deaths while over 1,000 people have recovered from the virus.

Ms Marwick said the prime minister was right to take this seriously.

“There are so many unknowns about this virus,” she said.

"We only need to look at Boris Johnson and see how sick he is… the government has taken the right approach.”

"While the economic pain has been enormous, I am going to congratulate the Morrison government for being cautious.”
