James Whitbrook of io9 gizmodo doesn't understand the value of canon Consistent storytelling? Timelines? Yeah James, people actually like learning about the consistent stories they enjoy!

Could you imagine if every story from every series (e.g. Star Wars) was totally random, with different characters, technology, and fantasy elements? No one read or consume these things.

This is why we have shows like Outer Limits, or books called short story anthologies, where you get random authors telling random stories.

People want a universe to fall into they're comfortable with, and can talk about characters that are consistent and grow over time.
