National cabinet agrees on mandatory code for commercial tenancies

National cabinet agrees on mandatory code for commercial tenancies A mandatory code for commercial tenancies has been agreed to by the national cabinet, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced.

The code will be legislated across every state and territory and will apply to every business eligible for JobKeeper with a turnover of $50 million or less.

Mr Morrison said the code will ensure landlords cannot evict tenants or draw on bonds, but the Prime Minister stressed tenants must also honour their leases.

There will be a binding mediation process.
