Removal of a large neck lipoma. *Lipomas are benign, slow-growing fatty lumps.
*They are most often located between the skin and the underlying muscle layer.
*Most commonly located in the chest, abdomen, back, arms and thighs.
*They feel soft and doughy to the touch.
*Angiolipomas can be painful.
*Usually found in middle age.
*May have more than one.
*Genetics may play a role.
*Easier to remove when smaller.
*Outpatient procedure
*Local Anesthesia: For small lipomas.
*General Anesthesia: May be required for large lipomas.
*Liposuction not very effective for removal.
*May develop a secondary lipoma in 5% of people.
*Insurance will usually cover removal.
