Sew a sturdy comfortable cloth face mask

Sew a sturdy comfortable cloth face mask This is a "how to" video on sewing sturdy comfortable cloth face masks for use during the coronavirus pandemic of 2020.

This video features the pattern developed by Jessica Nandino, a nurse who designed the pattern to be comfortable worn either with or without a N95 mask. The link to Jessica's pattern can be found here:

The mask is sewn without the use of elastic. Elastic can deteriorate and stretch out after many repeated launderings in hot water. This mask uses two layers of high quality 100% cotton woven fabric, as per the current recommendations from the medical community. Information regarding the type of materials best suited to making face masks was obtained from the eQuilter blog entry here:

As of early April 2020, my statement about the preference for using batik griege goods (that is either 100% cotton batik quilting cotton or undyed fabric intended to be used to create batik fabric - which is a slightly tighter weave than regular quilting cotton) and 100% cotton flannel appears to be borne out by preliminary studies based on links listed on the eQuilter site.

I STRONGLY encourage people to keep abreast of current information regarding preferred practices, and eQuilter has offered to stay current on this information.

I am not associated with eQuilter or Jessica Nandino, however I did ask Jessica's permission to create this video, and she graciously agreed. Please keep Jessica and all medical personnel helping to combat Covid-19 in your hearts at this difficult time.

And if you have any N95 masks or other hospital supplies that you do not need, please consider donating these materials to your local hospital in addition to making cloth masks. Doctors, nurses and hospital aides all over the world are putting their lives on the line in order to help us, and it would be a good deed indeed to do whatever we can to help them in return.

These are hard times, and we are all doing the best we can with what we have. Even small acts of generosity and kindness make a difference. I for one deeply appreciate that you have taken the time to consider making a mask, and have watched my video. Stay safe, stay well, and best wishes to all.
