Stimulus Check Updates 4-16 - Checks Sent to the Wrong Account & System Glitches

Hello and welcome to today’s afternoon stimulus check update. I can’t believe that there’s this much to cover every single day.

Today we have some more information on the “payment status not available” Error Message , system glitches that are affecting millions of people who used services like H&R Block and Turbo Tax, payments being accidentally sent to incorrect account numbers, and SSI recipients not receiving the $500 per dependant payment.

Before I get into it please consider subscribing and like this video if you love that I take the time to break down these issues every single day.

Yesterday millions of people were getting the error message “payment status not available According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.”

The assumption was that this was simply a system glitch. Well it was a combination of a glitch and certain users were not in the system yet.

Thanks to someone yesterday referring me to the IRS’s Instagram they had posted the following:

“Are you getting the payment status not available message?”
“You may receive this message if you get SSA,RRB, SSI, or VA benefits - your information is not yet available”
They go on to say you may also get this message if you recently filed through the new IRS Non-Filers Tool.

I have read that they are aware of the issue and are working on it.

The only firm indication I have found so far on when SSI and SSDI recipients will receive the stimulus is that payments are starting next week and will go through early May.

No paper checks have been physically mailed yet.

There has been no official release as to when non-filers are set to receive their payments however the IRS’s goal is to send them out as soon as possible so the best thing to do is be patient as most people need to take no action.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are on SSI without dependants you do not need to fill out the non filers portal
HOWEVER if you are on SSI and have dependants in order to receive the $500 per dependant payment you need to fill out the non-filers form.

Millions of people who used services like H&R Block and Turbo Tax did not receive their payments yesterday because of some kind of system glitch.

A Treasury spokeswoman said that the IRS has processed almost 80 million payments in three weeks out of the 150 million payments expected to go out. It’s reported that up to 21 million people could be affected by this glitch

There is no news yet as to when the glitch will be fixed but the IRS is aware of it and working on it.

In another piece of news many people have tried using the track my stimulus tool only to see that funds are to be deposited in an incorrect or closed account.

IRS spokeswoman Jodie Reynolds told the New York Post that if this happens the money should be rejected by banks and returned to the IRS if that has indeed happened that the payment isn’t going to bounce back and just sit here, we will turn around and cut them a paper check and make sure they get their money.

The issue here is it will likely take months to receive a paper check in this case however it is good news that those people will still receive the payment.

That’s all I have for today's update. I hope to come to you with good news tomorrow.
