The last few weeks have seen some speculation that Sebastian Vettel is being considered by Mercedes as a possible driver for 2021 after his current deal with Ferrari is set to come to an end in 2020.
As someone who is still a part of Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas has a direct line of communication with the German team.
He’s now confirmed that he has indeed spoken to his team about the rumors regarding him being replaced by Vettel and has revealed the response he got
“I got a pretty straight message that no, they're not considering Seb. So I said fine, no worries then.”
“It's the same as every year for me. I find it quite funny that with not even a single race done, there's been people getting my seat. It made me laugh! So there's no pressure from that side.”
He concluded by explaining how he is going to concentrate on the season ahead for now and not stress about what lies beyond 2020
"I have my clear goal for the season in my mind and that's it. Things will then sort themselves one way or another, whatever's going to happen. I've no stress about that at all."

Many in F1 also feel that Mercedes’ closest competitor in 2020 will be Red Bull and that Ferrari is now only the third best team in F1
Alpha Tauri’s team principal Franz Tost has explained why
''We start again where we left off and that's the winter tests in Barcelona. The picture we saw there, we can also expect in Austria and the picture was very clear there. Mercedes is ahead of Red Bull Racing and Ferrari is the third team"
His former driver and current Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has echoed this sentiment
“It will be between Mercedes and us in 2020. In our opinion, Ferrari is not at the top to compete for the world title”
