Seekiing out rare 45's that they won't require an upgrade at some time in the future. It is a lifetime quest to amass all the British release vinyl in the correct condition, on Columbia, London., Fontana, Oriole, Stateside before Tamla Motown released their debut single of their own label. The Supremes "Stop In The Name Of Love" on UK Tamla Motown with that iconic prefix TMG followed by 501 so the 500 series began. Many collectors have achieve a full set of TMG's in varying condition, then starts the quest of replacing the ones below Mint minus, with superior copies; that's when it starts to becoming a challenge.
But what has always been very difficult is to acquire are the pre-TMG 45's. All those 45's that trickled out before Tamla Motown became a household name, to rule the UK pop charts from 1965 through to the early 70's.
Out of all the early releases the Oriole "TAMLA SERIES" has always been my favourite with it's 60's geometric art-design lines and stark black and white landscape, adorned with the bright silver text information, brilliantly enveloped in the contrasting circular yellow sleeve;
This is British 60's pop-art at it's most eye-catching. Plus the prominently placed typeset, of that silver "TAMLA" left hand side, which triggered in our minds as "Buy me or you will regret it.." Decades down the line, how true that reaction has proved to be. These alluring Orioles have never been so elusive!
This copy is up for auction not just for its spectacular art-work, but mostly because it has most spectacularly fine vinyl, only revealing the merest sleeve storage hairline under direct light, it is an amazing mint minus throughout. The only pimple on this gorgeous artefacts face, is an unobtrusive "blue tick" just under the "American" logo on the a-side, flipside label is perfect. (see images)
